Senior Platform Engineer / VDI Engineer

Location: Glasgow (hybrid working - 2-3 days onsite)

Duration: 12 months +

Vetting: SC security clearance will be required

Skills and Experience
Essential

  • Significant experience in a Senior Platform Engineer, EUC Engineer, or Infrastructure Engineer role within a complex enterprise environment.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting VMware Horizon environments.
    • Strong technical knowledge of:
    • VMware Horizon
    • Unified Access Gateway (UAG)
    • App Volumes
    • Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM)
    • Instant Clones
    • VMware vSphere and ESXi
    • VDI creation, management and monitoring.
  • Extensive experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server and Windows desktop operating systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, PKI, Certificate Services, and authentication technologies.
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies, particularly VMware vSphere, vCenter, clusters, distributed switching, and storage integration.
  • Strong understanding of end-user computing technologies, profile management, application virtualisation, and desktop lifecycle management.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex platform issues to 3rd and 4th line support levels.
  • Demonstrable experience working within Agile, DevOps, or product-focused delivery teams.
  • Experience using infrastructure monitoring and performance management platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Jira, Confluence, and IT Service Management tooling.
  • Experience managing platform certificates and secure communications across enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience delivering platform upgrades, migrations, and transformation initiatives.
  • Good understanding of hybrid infrastructure environments spanning both on-premises and cloud-hosted services.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes.

Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP), VMware Horizon certification, or equivalent VMware accreditation.
  • Microsoft certifications relating to Windows Server, Azure, or End User Computing technologies.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based infrastructure platforms including GCP, Microsoft Azure and AWS.
  • Knowledge of Identity and Access Management technologies including Entra ID (Azure AD), MFA, Conditional Access, and SSO solutions.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation frameworks.

 
Supplementary Information

  • May involve occasional out-of-hours work to support maintenance activities, platform upgrades, or major incident response.
  • Occasional travel between organisational sites may be necessary.


Our client operates hybrid working 2-3 days in East Kilbride, with occasional client site visits will be required into Glasgow.
