In celebration of International Women’s Day, we took this opportunity to delve into our data spanning the past three years to analyse the trends in female placements, pay differentials, and the distribution of roles. Our mission was clear: to gauge the effectiveness of our efforts in fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment.
In 2021, Synapri embarked on an initiative aimed at supporting women in tech. Collaborating closely with our clients, we set out to not only increase the representation of women in job placements but also to confront head-on the issue of the gender pay gap. The results we unearthed from our data analysis have filled us with a sense of optimism, indicating a promising trajectory towards narrowing the gender gap within the tech sector.
Here are the key findings from our analysis:
Female Placements Increased by 117%
Our targeted approach, ranging from inclusive job-advertising practices to client education around hiring bias, resulted in a significant rise in the number of women placed in technical and leadership roles. This growth is our strongest indicator that representation is moving in a positive direction.
Permanent Salaries and Contract Rates Are Rising
The data revealed a remarkable upward trend in both permanent salaries and contract rates. Permanent salaries witnessed a commendable surge of 22.28% from 2021 to 2023, indicative of a shift towards fairer renumeration packages. Similarly, contract rates experienced an 11.71% increase over the same period, signifying a positive trajectory.
Stronger Representation in Leadership Roles
Women holding senior titles such as Manager, Director, or Consultant have increased steadily:
This is a critical marker of progress, as leadership visibility is a proven driver of broader gender equity in the sector.
What This Means for the Tech Industry
Organisations are increasingly recognising the business and cultural value of diverse teams, and candidates are benefitting from enhanced opportunities and more competitive pay packages.
However, progress is not linear, and the industry still faces challenges around retention, leadership representation, and eliminating pay disparity. Continued collaboration between recruitment partners, employers and industry bodies remains essential.
At Synapri, we remain steadfast in our dedication to fostering a culture of inclusivity, where diversity is not just celebrated but embraced. Join us in shaping a future where women in tech not only excel but lead the way towards a more equitable and inclusive world.
