Our esteemed client, a leading life sciences institute based in Cambridge, is currently seeking a talented Python Developer to join their dynamic team. Renowned for their groundbreaking research and contributions to the field, this institute offers a unique opportunity for a Python Developer to make a significant impact in the world of life sciences.

Position Overview:
As a Python Developer, you will play a pivotal role in the development and maintenance of critical software solutions supporting the institute's pioneering research initiatives. You will leverage your extensive Python experience, with a focus on API design and development, to create robust, scalable, and innovative applications. Additionally, this role offers the chance to contribute to architectural decisions and collaborate within an agile development environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to gather and comprehend requirements for software projects in the realm of life sciences research.
  • Develop, test, and maintain Python-based applications and APIs, adhering to best practices.
  • Contribute to the design of the system architecture and participate in critical technical decision-making processes.
  • Utilise Django and JavaScript, when necessary, to enhance and extend existing applications.
  • Foster collaboration with fellow developers, data scientists, and researchers to understand their needs and provide effective technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and issues promptly.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies, proactively incorporating them to enhance the software development process.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Proven 3-5 years of professional experience in Python development, emphasising API design and development.
  • Experience with Django and JavaScript is advantageous.
  • Strong adherence to software development best practices, including version control, testing, and code review.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, agile environment.
  • Effective communication skills, enabling seamless interaction with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactive and self-driven, with a demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and drive them to successful completion.
  • Willingness to work onsite at least 2 days per week in the Cambridge office.
